Still remember years ago iPhone’s sales? That after the original launched, 1 million copies of the iPhone 3G were snapped up in the first three days, and another 1 million iPhone 3GS units were sold out during its opening weekend.
Well, history repeating itself! This time, the iPad brings you another chance to witness the sales of a miracle! After it went on sale at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Friday, the iPad is estimated to have sold 51,000 in its first two hours and 300,000 of the devices on the Opening Day. Counted at the bottom price at $499 for its basic model, this turns out to be some $150 million income on its first sailing day.
What’s more, the current data showed that there were almost 517,000 iPads had sold, not to mention, the 3G editions of the iPad will come out later this month and Saturday’s 300,000 only includes the US but nowhere else. Thus, the sales numbers could be larger and it surely going to rise up rapidly and quickly.
According to Apple Press Release, these sales included the pre-ordered customers, channel partners and Apple Retail Stores. Meanwhile, Apple also announced that iPad users downloaded over one million apps from App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day. “It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world — it’s going to be a game changer,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”
Some estimated that Apple would sell more than 600,000 iPads over the weekend. And the iPad is supposed to sell 7.1 million units worldwide in 2010. Well, I would think there estimate is a little bit lower, because I am sure there are iPads in boxes still waiting to be gifted.
Whatever, it’s really hard to disregard iPad’s impressive sales! Let’s wait and see what’s its finally big number will be!
