iPhone vs iPad, Who Wins?

Friday, February 26th, 2010 by Kyle Chen

Since the release of iPad, people continuingly making comparison between it and iPhone. Generaly speaking, the two sharing many similarities in appearance and function, though has differences on the applicability. No wonder there formed a large group of tweeners hovering between iPhone and iPad in these days due to the two’s very similarities, are you coming from that group? Well, hopefully, after reading this all-round evaluation article on the two, you could find your way!

1. Multi-media Performance
iPad has a strong audio and video playback. With a larger screen, its video playback clearly and beautifully which would surprisingly performed superb excellent while watching movies and photos, but it’s relatively more suitable for using in the static and privacy context. Besides, iPad still has an improvement space in the practicality in regard to its music player.

Because of its smaller size, iPhone is far inferior to iPad in the “initial conditions”, but its portable could play as its biggest advantage as well. Thus, iPhone would be your first choice on choosing the music player on the go; meanwhile, the embedded camera is it’s another big hit. Undoubtedly, when come to the eye-catching part, iPhone is inferior again by comparison with iPad’s super-size.

2. Web Surfing
iPad can be the very perfect complement to PC on complete most of the network indoor. And using iPad to browse websites in bed would be the stay-at-home type’s favorite part that I believe none of them would miss this relaxing way. While, as its size is too large, the mobile Internet is the Achilles heel of iPad, so, besides home, perhaps the best place to use it is the coffee shop.

Few people can think of using iPhone to surf on the Internet at home, while the street is its dominated world, for its compact and lightweight body enables it worked in a high degree of freedom and has no demands for the user’s upper body strength which iPad asks for. Surly, iPhone users’ eyes would be subject to a certain and unavoidable “torture” while using because of the small-screen.

3. Business Communication
iPad escalated to iPhone In the mail function and it supports the browsing of PDF, Office, and some other formats documents while the latter don’t. What’s more, with an external keyboard, iPad can greatly improve the input speed, and it could even be played as an alternative to the ordinary office desktop PC. However, talking about which plays better during the business trip, iPad would be defeated by iPhone again because of its less practicality on the go.

Given iPad is almost impossible for one-handed operation, iPhone’s portability makes itself more suitable for mobile commerce or other emergency context, which is smart phones’ originally strength. However, as to input speed or document browsing, iPhone does not performances as good as iPad does.

4. Gameplay
iPad’s screen is larger and clearer than iPhone’s which brings stronger visual impact to the users, and with the dedicated gaming software support in the future, I believe there would be even more outstanding display. Well, to a certain extent, its size and mode of operation also limits the gameplay, perhaps there will come out the handle parts which would be used to support its game end very soon.

iPhone is the most powerful mobile gaming terminal that its quality of game and gameplay are almost equal to Sony’s PSP, what’s more, the compact body of iPhone is more user-friendly for bringing more entertainment to the users. In addition, there are thousands of models game software in the APP store which support both iPhone’s and iPad’s gameplay.

5. Daily Tools
iPad uses the iPhone OS 3.2 system, but it makes obviously upgrade in Notepad, Calendar, Contacts. As we talked before, the bigger screen of it brings good visual experience which could improve the sense of operation, too. As to the e-book reading, iPad has an overwhelming advantage than iPhone.

iPhone totally defeated by iPad on the daily tools’ practicality. It also supports Notepad, Calendar, E-book browsing and some other functions, but its interface and the actual functional aspects is far less because of iPad’s 9.7-inch giant screen, perhaps Calculator is its only strength to contend against iPad.

Now, as you may get a deeper understanding of the two, which one would win your heart, the iPad or iPhone?
